Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Who is this for?  Expectant mothers, mothers of young children, and their children (although the children's portion of the program is designed for preschoolers, babies and young homeschooled children are also welcome)

What do we do? During our weekly playgroup moms have an informal time of discussion and visiting while their children play at various stations around the room.  Half way through the morning we stop for a snack, and then shift to a program for children.  This spring, children will be learning the main stories in the book of Genesis.   Rather than having a craft this session, children will learn how to tell the stories using their own felt story board.   On Tuesday evenings we have a discussion group for moms (via Zoom) where we are discussing a book on God's plan for mothers.

When do we meet?  Wednesday mornings, 9:30 - 11:30.  Our second session begins February 23, 2022.

Where do we meet? Shoreline Baptist Church basement, 910 Goderich St., Port Elgin

How much does it cost? $30/family for the spring session is the suggested donation to cover the cost of the felt story board for each family.

Why are we doing this? Mothers of young children are playing a vital role in raising up the next generation, but they can often feel alone and unsure of what to do.  God has given us clear guidelines in the Bible about how who should raise our children and operate our families. We want to come alongside mothers of young children to support them during this time and help them teach their children about God.

I am not religious.  Can I still come? Certainly. You are most welcome to come.  You will notice that we reference the Bible often.  We truly believe that God's plan for families is best and would love to share it with you.  We will also be teaching the children from the Bible.

Is there childcare?  No.  Moms will be responsible for their own children during this time.

Is snack provided?  No.  Each family is asked to bring their own snack and drinks.

What should I bring: Indoor shoes or slippers, a snack and drinks for your family. If your child mouths toys, please bring your own from home and limit your child to those toys.  Please don't bring any stuffed animals or toys for older children.

Do I need to preregister? Yes.  Please pre-register and confirm attendance weekly as we are currently limited to 25.

How are you managing Covid-19?  We are doing our best to abide by best practices established by Public Health.  You can read all about it in our Covid-19 Policy.  As restrictions change, we will update these guidelines.

Can we still come if my child has a runny nose or cold symptoms?  NO.  We want the Mom Walk playgroup to be a safe and healthy place to meet.  If you or your child have been experiencing cold symptoms, please do not come to Mom Walk until you have been symptom free for 48 hours.  We realize that it is very important to be able to have social connections, and that it can be particularly discouraging to be stuck at home with sick ones.  If a family has to stay home due to sickness, we will try to do a Messenger video call for a portion of the mom's discussion time and also during the children's program to make those at home feel a little bit connected.  Hopefully this will make it easier to choose to stay home if someone is not quite well.

Do you have a Facebook Group?  Yes we do, but it is only open to moms who have attended at least one in-person Mom Walk meeting.  We will do our best to keep the membership of this group current. This will help to maintain some privacy for group members.

Can we take pictures at Mom Walk and post them to social media?  Maybe.  As different families have varying comfort levels with having their pictures posted on social media, please ask permission before taking or posting any photos.  Generally it will be accepted to post pictures within the Mom Walk Facebook group and chat.

If you have any questions, please feel free to connect with the church.
